biography
Jennifer White has been an educator for over twelve years and
during that time has taught in a wide variety of community and
academic settings where she has become known for her
entertaining and engaging presentations. She has worked as a
Senior Consultant and Lecturer with Northwestern University, as
well as a technical writer and researcher for several engineering
and not for profit organizations. She tours nationally speaking
on sustainability and simplicity issues and performs with her
husband at colleges, festivals, listening rooms and conferences.
She is the Co-Founder and Director of Education for the Green
Heart Institute which created GreenHeartGuide.net and Green
Heart Community Initiatives, training local volunteers to conduct
Eco Audits for neighbors who then participate in online
mentoring and tracking programs for reducing their carbon
emissions, limiting their overall environmental impact, and
“living sustainably from the heart.” Jennifer’s multidisciplinary
background in physics, psychology, systems science, and
sustainability has been ideal for creating the content of Institute's
unique and fun programs. Her lifelong passion for our
environment and her interest in promoting whole systems health
and sustainable behavior change motivate her to create an
approach that goes beyond simply educating people about the
environment, to include their understanding of their own
emotional and psychological drivers for making choices that
promote (or preclude) sustainability and balanced, meaningful
living.
Jennifer shares a simple life in Colorado with her husband
Jimmy, where they also sing professionally as the acoustic duo
"Sferes & White." Their "Eco-Tones" keynote presentations are a
fun and entertaining combination of music and education, which
address issues such as sustainability, simplicity, community,
interdependence, and the good life. Their CD “The View from
Here” was released in October 2005, and they were recently
invited to perform on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home
Companion” as well as the Hallmark Channel.
